Olympia Youth Outreach Committee

Olympia Youth Outreach Committee

Join us as we explore opportunities to bring outdoor experiences to youth through outdoor youth activities and family programs.

With the focus on youth under the age of 14, our Olympia Branch allows youth to learn from highly skilled volunteer educators to bring the deepest and most personalized experience available.

Outdoor skills & activities

These adventures include exciting classes and activities for the family that teach Family Essentials and encourage a connection with the outdoors. This may include camping, rock climbing, backpacking, razor clamming,  orienteering, berry picking, boating and more. We also participate in several stewardship outreach activities that offer families an opportunity to serve.

Find Activities

Family hiking

Family hikes are scheduled all year long and are led by skilled and experienced Mountaineers whose goals are the safety and enjoyment of the whole team. They are meant to be short and engaging for kids and often feature special interests such as scavenger hunts, haunted towns, interesting wildlife both inland and on the beach, and great snacks.
Family hikes are run through the Hiking Committee and must always include an authorized adult for any child who signs up. The adult is responsible for managing their kids so that the leaders can successfully manage the activity.

Mountain workshops

This is our outreach program. We partner with youth-serving organizations to provide outdoor experiences that help get kids and families out of doors safely and successfully. Our programs are custom designed to provide experiences that can include hikes and snowshoe outings, outdoor skills and essentials, First aid, Navigation, Leave-No-Trace ethics, and more. We have worked with groups such as Big Brother Big Sister, Girl Scouts, City of Olympia, school classes, and more.

Summer Camp

Youth ages 5-10 can join The Mountaineers  for a week long summer-day camp in August. They will learn  outdoor skills such as climbing, hiking, kayaking, navigation, camp cooking, survival skills, and more!  This is a great opportunity for  youth to learn skills and spend time outside with new friends.
