Christina Buckman

Christina Buckman

Foothills Backpacking Committee Chair

Since joining The Mountaineers in 2012, Christina has taken B3 Backpacking, Basic Snowshoeing and CHS courses. Christina started leading day hikes in 2018, and after graduating from the backpacking course, became a backpack leader and mentor for B3 Backpacking course in 2019 and continues to lead and mentor. In 2020, Christina co-created the GoHike Beginner Hiking Course, which launched in 2021. She continues to administer, mentor and lead for the course, now in its successful fourth year. She was elected Chair for the Backpacking Committee in January 2024.

Christina grew up in Yakima, Washington and grew up car camping with her parents in Washington, Oregon and California, but it wasn't until her daughter left for college that she took her first solo hike in North Bend and fell in love with the trails. Christina leads with a focus on belonging, community and body positivity. If asked about her favorite PNW trip to date, it would be her first 6-day backpack last summer at Mt. Rainier exploring the beautiful Northern Loop and beyond. Christina currently lives in Lake Forest Park and spends as much time in nature as possible. She is an Academic HR Business Partner in her professional life, currently at the University of Washington, Bothell.
