Early Bird Reviewer Program

Early Bird Reviewer Program

Become an Early Bird Reviewer to receive Advance Reader Copies (ARCs) of upcoming Mountaineers Books titles!

We’re proud to partner with passionate early reviewers who share our love for wild places, adventure, and great storytelling. By reading and reviewing our upcoming titles, you help us spread the word about our mission—to inspire exploration, deepen connection to the natural world, and protect the places we love. Your enthusiasm helps new readers discover our books and keeps the spirit of outdoor adventure alive. We’re starting with a small group of 20 readers and hope to grow the program over time.

How it Works

  1. Fill out the Google form here.
  2. We review applicants and will let you know via email if you've been selected as an early reviewer.
  3. Twice a year, we’ll send you an email with a short survey featuring upcoming titles to choose from. Select the books you’d like to receive, and we’ll mail out physical Advance Reader Copies (ARCs) as they become available. You might even find a little surprise swag tucked in with your books!

FAQ

What is an ARC?
An ARC (Advance Reader Copy) is a version of a book before it's been released to the public. These books cannot be sold to used bookstores.

Who can be part of the Mountaineers Books Early Reviewer List?
Anyone over 18 years of age living within the United States can participate. Due to limited supplies, we won't be able to accept everyone who wants to join, but we will keep a waiting list we will use when space opens up.

Do I have to pay to be on the Early Reviewer List?
Nope! ARCs will be sent at no cost to you.

Do I have to leave a review on books I've received?
You are under no obligation to leave reviews for the books we've sent you, but it really helps our books to get early reviews, so we hope you'll share your thoughts!

Do I need to have a big social media following to participate?
Nope!

Why is Mountaineers Books doing this?
We hope you will leave honest reviews on Goodreads and other websites for books you love. Early reviews help launch new titles and increase awareness of the book.

Why do I have to be included on the Mountaineers Books email newsletter?
Why wouldn't you want to receive weekly emails about sales, giveaways, and new releases? Unfortunately, our email system is set up so if you unsubscribe from our newsletter you are automatically unsubscribed from all communications, including Early Bird Review emails.

Additional Information

Mountaineers Books reserves the right to remove anyone from the Early Bird Reviewer program for any reason. Participants must be subscribed to the Mountaineers Books newsletter list to be eligible.

We are committed to creating an inclusive space within our early reviewer community. We value diversity and inclusion across all intersections of identity. We publish writers across different races, genders, ethnicities, abilities, and sexualities. We strongly encourage BIPOC reviewers and reviewers from historically underrepresented communities to join our program.

We value your privacy and do not share any early reviewer information with outside companies. We may use comments you have submitted about the books on social media and other marketing materials, but will not include your name or other identity details.
