Foothills Branch Chair Elect
Want to be more involved with The Mountaineers and support programs at a foundational level? Consider becoming the new Chair-Elect for the Foothills Branch. The Branch Chair-Elect’s role is part of a three-year commitment. During the first year as Chair-Elect, the primary function is training: to learn organizational policies and branch strategic priorities; to develop leadership and facilitation skills; and to become familiar with and build strong relationships with branch leadership, committee leadership, and Mountaineers staff. Throughout this year of training, the Chair Elect has the close mentorship of the current Branch Chair. It is expected that the Chair Elect will transition to Branch Chair after one year and continue to serve as Branch Chair for two years. Foothills Branch Secretary
The Secretary is the recording officer of the Foothills Branch and custodian of Branch records, correspondence, and reports. The Secretary prepares and distributes written agendas for all regular and special meetings of the Branch Council and takes, maintains, and distributes minutes of all Council and Executive Committee meetings. The Secretary also serves as the liaison for the Branch with Mountaineers staff for annual elections, communicates Council-approved nominees for the ballot and communicates election results back to the Council. The Secretary serves a two-year term, beginning on October 1 through September 30th of the second year. The Branch is looking for someone to shadow the current Secretary through September 30, 2026, and assume office on October 1, 2026. If interested, please contact Lori Heath at lorieheath@live.com.
Foothills Branch Board of Directors Representative
The Board of Directors Representative for the Foothills Branch is a Mountaineers organizational Board Member and conveys the interests of Foothills Branch leaders and members at Mountaineers organization-wide board meetings and in key decisions of the Mountaineers organization. This allows for the effective communication of Branch-specific issues to the Mountaineers Board and provides a point of contact for information about Mountaineers Board-level initiatives for Foothills Branch activity and committee leaders.
Foothills Backpacking Committee Chair
The Foothills Backpacking Chair plays an essential role in supporting and advocating for the community of backpacking leaders. The Chair communicates club-wide expectations and new initiatives. Through action and communication, the Chair fosters a culture of belonging, community, and education. In addition, the Chair oversees a small budget, monitors expenses, and actively recruits and supports new leaders with the goal of leader retention and growth. These functions take approximately 10 hours per month, though task demands vary. If interested in this role, please contact email Christina Buckman.
Events Chair
Events Chair - email Travis Vermeer, Branch Chair. This committee plans and promotes a variety of special events for branch members and non-members. We’re in search of a social butterfly to help plan branch picnics and other social events. ·
Foothills Hiking, Backpacking, and Urban Walking Committee Treasurer
Hiking, Backpacking, Urban Walk Committee Treasurer - email Lori Heath, Committee Secretary. The Treasurer supports the committee in coordinating the annual budget process and mid-flight updates, approves expense reimbursements for committee volunteers, and represents the interests of the committee with branch leadership, finance committee, and Mountaineers staff - including development of course pricing guidance. ·

Communications Committee
The Foothills Communication Committee publishes the monthly newsletter, maintains the branch website, helps develop branch-related blogs and magazine content, and posts branch news to social media. We’re looking for people who are social media savvy or love to write. · If interested, please contact Lori Heath.
Navigation Committee Members
Navigation Committee Members - email Anthony Cree, Chair. The Navigation Committee organizes and delivers clinics and courses to help outdoor enthusiasts gain the skills and confidence to navigate on or off trails in the backcountry. The committee has several open volunteer positions for courses and is looking for the next Committee Chair. They welcome anyone who would like to get more involved.
Annual Branch Celebration Planner
Annual Branch Celebration Planner - email Lori Heath. Want to help plan a fun and rewarding event? We're looking for additional members to help plan the Foothills Branch Annual Celebration later in the year (most likely on a Sunday evening in November or January). During the celebration, we will recognize our Branch's amazing leaders. Committee members will participate in three to five Zoom calls, help acquire supplies prior to the event, and support during the event. ·
Foothills First Aid Chair
The First Aid Chair oversees first aid programs and training for the Foothill Branch and collaborates with branch activity chairs to maintain a safe and informed environment for all branch activities, particularly those in the backcountry.
