Winter Trails Month - 2018

A collection of beginner cross-country ski and snowshoe activities offered throughout the month of January, in conjunction with the national Winter Trails organization!

Winter Trails Month is an organization-wide event aimed at getting new and seasoned members outside and enjoying new winter activities. In conjunction with the national Winter Trails organization, all activities listed to this page are geared towards beginners who are looking to try cross-country skiing or snowshoeing for the first time - or who are relatively new to those sports. Winter Trails Month is a great opportunity for folks to escape the low-land rain, and to discover the fitness and social benefits that come along with these easy-to-learn winter sports!

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to be a member of The Mountaineers to participate in a winter trails activity?

No! Guests may participate in up to two events per calendar year before paying for membership. Guests will need to create a Guest Member profile to register for an activity. 

Is advanced registration required for winter trails activities?

Yes! Advanced registration is required for all activities with The Mountaineers.

I don't have my own gear, Will equipment Be provided for my winter trails activity?

Free or discounted gear rentals may be available for some activities - please check with the activity leader, if you have any questions about equipment availability! Participants are expected to provide their own weather-and-sport-appropriate outerwear and layers, which may include: 

  • Non-Cotton, Insulating Layers (Top & Bottom)
  • Wool (or Non-Cotton) Socks, Extra Socks
  • Waterproof Layer (Jacket & Pants)
  • Insulating, Waterproof Boots
  • Insulating, Waterproof Gloves
  • Warm Hat, Neck Gaitor
  • Sunglasses
  • Sunscreen & Lip Balm
