Become an Instructor

The Foothills Climbing programs rely on volunteers to help instruct and manage the courses.

Find courses

All Foothills Climbing Courses are led by our wonderful group of dedicated volunteers. Without your generous donation of time and energy, none of these courses would be possible. Once you've graduated or obtained equivalency for a course you are eligible to instruct for that course.

PREREQUISITES

All  volunteers will need to have successfully completed, graduated, or obtain equivalency for the course they wish to volunteer with.

Basic Alpine Climbing

Foothills Climbing will require that new Instructor/first year Intermediate Students attend a Foothills  Instructor Review Session before they can volunteer with the Basic Course; this is to ensure  all volunteers teach to the same standard and technique. All Instructors will need to take attend a Foothills  Instructor Review Session once every three years to ensure they're up to speed on the newest standards and techniques. These sessions will typically be hosted in the winter, just prior to the start of the course.

Those who've taken the Everett Climbing Basic Instructor review within the last 3 years are also eligible to sign up as instructors.

Intermediate Alpine Climbing and Sport Climbing

Please contact the respective Primary Leader for each course you're interested in Instructing.

Our Instructor Organization chart shows our general organization for trips. New Instructors will be mentored by a more experience Instructor. Instructors for a specific skill or station will be organized under a Station/Skill Lead, who will assist the Field Trip Leader in making the Field Trip a success.
