Please note, some designated Wilderness Areas within the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest are subject to additional regulations, so these trips may require advance planning, particularly for overnight trips. Refer to the forest's Wilderness page for a list of these areas and specific information associated with them. 

Mt. Baker Ranger District

All course field trips to the Mt. Baker Ranger District fall under our Priority Use Permit. Staff submits the permit application and reports our organization's usage annually. Please contact staff at info@mountaineers.org if you are planning a new course in the Mt. Baker Ranger District, or if you plan to significantly increase the size of a course or field trip you have offered in the past. This may require Mountaineers staff to submit additional information to the Mt. Baker Ranger District in order to adjust our permit. Please review the permit document and amendments linked below for an overview of the activities and locations allowed under our permit. 

USFS Priority Use Permit with Amendments

Two areas within the Mt. Baker Ranger District (Coleman Seracs and the Mt Baker National Recreation Area, including Easton Glacier and Squak Glacier) are included in our Internal Climbing and Scrambling Lottery for course-related field trips. Darrington Ranger District

All course field trips to the Darrington Ranger District fall under a Temporary Use Permit. Staff submits the permit application bi-annually and reports our organization's usage annually. Please contact staff at info@mountaineers.org if you are planning a new course in the Darrington Ranger District, or if you plan to significantly increase the size of a course or field trip you have offered in the past. This may require Mountaineers staff to submit additional information to the Mt. Baker Ranger District in order to adjust our permit. Please review the permit document linked below for an overview of the activities and locations allowed under our permit.

Snoqualmie Ranger District

As of 2017, the Snoqualmie Ranger District considers Mountaineers trips and courses to be "nominal use".  Leaders should carry a copy of our nominal effects letter with them during activities taking place in the the Snoqualmie Ranger District, whether the activity is a course field trip or a stand-alone trip. This may be done electronically - please save a copy of this document to your phone.
