Trekking Nepal: The eye of the Storm on Manaslu and Annapurna Circuits, Presented by Tom and Karen Hodgman

This multi-media program presents a 36-day trekking excursion that combines the Circuits of Manaslu (8th highest mountain in the world) and Annapurna (10th highest) covering 250 miles and approximately 30,730ft of elevation gain. The itinerary comes in contact with the vibrant culture of the ancient Gurung people, having strong ties to Tibet, now living in the Buri Gandaki River valley of Nepal. As well, the group survives the 'Killer Storm' of the 2014 trekking season (which drops 5 feet of snow on the passes), in the aftermath of which they witness scores of trekkers forced to abandon plans and evacuate the remote area of Nepal.

Becoming some of the few to successfully cross Larkyela Pass (5190m/16,760ft) that season, they overlap the contiguous trekking circuit of Annapurna. The continuation of the five-week excursion crosses Thorungla Pass (5400m/17,445ft, one of the highest trekking passes in the world) into the Kali Gandaki River valley. They drop then into the deepest gorge in the world, between Jomsom and Ghorepani (known for its viewpoint on Poon Hill), and witness the double-edged effect of development on the villages of this valley.
The group of three is supported by a Nepalese porter (son of a family of Everest Sherpas) and a guide from the Lukla region, near Everest. For accommodations and food they use the Tea-houses, in what is considered a classic style of Nepal trekking.
