Introduction to Trail Racing is designed to help participant get ready and complete 25K trail race of your choice. As an option you can join us at a trail race to run it together: White River 25K (July 25). Registration for this race is not included in the course - you must register on your own.
NOTE: The number of participants may be expanded if there is interest - please register for the wait list if the course is full.
This course is best suited for participants who:
- Have some experience with trails and trail running
- Can currently hike/run 5mi on trail (any pace)
- Interested in training for a 25K trail race
- Looking for a trail running group with similar goals
The course will offer:
- Online classroom info session via Zoom - required
- Pre-built general 3-months training schedule
- Two weekly group runs available to course participants only (Tue and Sat long run) - Issaquah Alps and I-90 corridor locations (more runs will be posted after the info session as the course progresses)
- Insights on nutrition, hydration, and gear
- Supportive community of trail runners
To graduate the course, students are required to:
- Volunteer at one of the local trail races (one group option will be available).
- Complete a 25K trail race (must be an official trail race). NOTE: registration for an actual race is not included - you must register separately.
Course graduates will receive a trail running Skill Badge for Trail Racing 25K!

Field trip gear list:
- Appropriate shoes, socks, shorts/pants and/or other apparel in technical/synthetic/wool fabrics for trail running
- 10 Essentials adapted for trail running
- Lightweight rain-resistant or waterproof jacket
- Pack or waist belt or equivalent to hold required items and personal possessions such as medications, cell phone, keys, etc.
- Water and snacks
- Map (printed or digital)
Weather dependent items (optional):
- Gloves
- Watch
- Sunglasses
- Sun hat or warm hat
- Extra layers in in technical/synthetic/wool fabrics, e.g., an extra long-sleeved shirt
