Beta and Brews: Winter FA of Hard Mox with Eric Gilbertson

Come join us for a tale of persistence and ice from the warmth of Cascade Auditorium!

Eric Gilbertson and Nick Roy made the Winter First  Ascent of Hard Mox  via Perry Glacier to the West Ridge route (M5 WI2 5-pitch) on December 29, 2023. This was Eric's third attempt at a winter ascent of Hard Mox, and the successful summit required a Zodiac boat, snow shoes, ascent plates, ice tools, and some serious moxie (pun intended).

You may know Eric as the guy lugging surveying equipment up mountains every summer and knocking peaks off of the Washington 100 with his measurements. What you might not know is that in winter, he's hard at work completing the Bulgers list, which, if finished, will make him the first Bulgers finisher to do so in winter conditions! Eric is no stranger to such Sisyphean goals; he and his twin brother, Matthew, aim to be the first people to summit the high point in each country in the world, and have ticked 144 off so far.

This event is free and open to the public, no membership required. We'll have complimentary beer and some non-alcoholic beverages for you to enjoy.
