Friction climbing instruction and practice in beautiful Icicle Canyon, Leavenworth. Intended primarily for students in this year’s Basic Climbing Course (all branches), but open to basic graduates,  basic equivalents, alpine scramblers, and anyone who has some top-roped climbing experience. Participants should have at least a top-rope belay badge. Please contact leader if you are not sure this applies to you.

Friction is the technique used to climb slabs where there are no obvious hand or foot holds. Strength means nothing, hardware is superfluous; it’s all about balance and movement. You will learn to dance on rock. Cebe will help level up your friction climbing skills whether you currently climb 5.2 or 5.12.

All climbing will be safely top-roped. Standard rock gear required, including helmets. Ropes and anchors will be provided.

A group email will go out a couple days before the activity with more details. We traditionally meet for breakfast at a Leavenworth restaurant; climb beautiful granite slabs in Icicle Creek most of the day; and return to cars in late afternoon. There is a possibility to car camp in the area the night before; reach out to leader directly.

TBA, probably Leavenworth breakfast location around 8:30am.
