Prerequisite: Being a Scrambling Course graduate (with a badge in your profile) is a prerequisite for this course. If you don't have that badge because you still need to complete First Aid or another piece of the Scrambling Course then you'll be considered if there's still space remaining. If you haven't taken the Scrambling Course but have significant scrambling experience outside of the Mountaineers then you'll be considered if there's still space remaining. Another method to obtain a Scrambling Course graduate badge is to apply for Scrambling Course Equivalency, contact your branch's Scrambling Committee for more information about equivalency.
Course description: This course is the glacier component of the Basic Alpine Climbing Course. You'll learn to travel safely on glaciers while roped up, and you'll learn technical skills such as crevasse rescue and rappelling. In addition to the lectures and field trips listed below, there are a couple field trips you'll do with your SIG (Small Instructional Group) out in the mountains on snow and ice. Students and graduates of this course are able to sign up for Basic Glacier climbs just like graduates of the Basic Alpine Climbing Course.
Application process: Everyone needs to fill out an application and have it approved before being accepted into the Glacier Course. Just click the "Apply" button on this page to fill out the application. After your application has been reviewed you'll be notified via email, and then you'll be able to sign up and pay for the course.
♦ 1st Round: All applications received between Nov 1st and Dec 20th will be reviewed at the same time at the end of December. The order which applications are received does not matter.
♦ 2nd Round: If there's still space in the course then applications received on or after Dec 21st will be reviewed in the order received, please allow a couple weeks for the review process.
