Basic Glacier Travel Course

Basic Glacier Travel Course 2017 will teach skills that will allow graduates to be part of a glacier rope team.

Leader permission is REQUIRED before signing up for the class or the waitlist.

This course will cover ice axe use, roped glacier travel, crevasse rescue techniques, and gear selection that is appropriate for spring/summer glaciated peak climbs in the Pacific NW. This course will cover skills required to be a member of a glacier climb for a basic glacier climb.

This course does not cover rock climbing skills or glacier climbing rope leader skills.

Prerequisites:

The course is designed for graduates of the Alpine Scramble course or those with extensive scrambling/off-trail experience who want to learn the basics of safe glacier travel.

Required Equipment

A complete list of gear required for this course will be provided at the first lecture. Unless you already own and have knowledge of the gear, it is NOT recommended that students buy gear before the first lecture as there is a lot of variety in climbing gear, some of which may not be suitable for the skills taught in this course.
