For more than 20 years, the Olympia Branch has held an annual Conservation and Stewardship Gathering to bring together branch members who were interested in learning and doing something to protect the environment we both live in and explore. The point of this gathering is to unite branch members who share an interest in conservation and are willing to participate in a variety of meaningful stewardship activities.
This year’s gathering features an important presentation by Pamela Braff, PhD, City of Olympia Director of Climate Programs. Dr. Braff will talk about the Climate Change impacts on the Pacific NW Communities.
“Climate change is already having profound impacts on the natural environment, economy, public health and quality of life in the City of Olympia. New and growing impacts include rising temperatures, extreme heat, heavy precipitation, flooding, sea level rise and wildfires. As Mountaineers who spend much time outdoors, we are among the first to experience the impacts of a changing climate. We are all familiar with this topic and have heard the disinformation, denial and solution avoidance that obstructs progress. This meeting will give us a chance to get behind positive local actions to reduce the impacts of Climate Change.
And there is Dinner and camaraderie. Enjoy time with other PNW Conservation and Stewardship advocates while enjoying a Pizza and Salad dinner. There is a $10.00 registration fee to help cover the costs of the Gathering. Also please bring your drinks own place setting (plate, silverware, glass napkin)
The meeting also includes brief presentations on both our past stewardship accomplishments and future opportunities to help protect and preserve our local natural resources.

We understand that the upcoming changes in the political environment will likely include efforts to roll back environmental protections and the regulations protecting public lands. We believe it is important to learn all we can about our role in preparing for the impacts of Climate Change and catastrophic 73% decline wildlife populations and the populations of many keystone species. We must have a role to play. This is the time to learn and embrace this role as an outdoor community. Please bring your ideas for Stewardship and Environmental Awareness outings, trips, and projects as well as your own personal calendar.
