Who:
All field trip instructors and assistant instructors are welcome. If you haven’t instructed in the past 18 months, attending this walk-through or the Zoom training is required.
What:
A ~4-hour on-site overview of the Wilderness Navigation Field Trip course. We’ll walk most of the route and review what happens at each station. This in-person session is more comprehensive than the Zoom training. You do not need to attend both.
Registration:
Please register for this activity as an Instructor through the course page. No student slots are available. Registering as an instructor ensures your volunteer hours are recorded.
What to Bring:
- Compass
- Phone with Gaia or CalTopo app and ability to import GPX files
- Small pack with water, snack/lunch, and weather-appropriate layers
- Optional: Instructor Map, Instructor Tips PDF (will also be provided at the field trip)
Notes:
- There are no bathroom facilities at the site.
- Expect light brush and uneven footing—wear boots or sturdy shoes.
- This is a shorter version of the field trip; we won’t practice every exercise in full detail.
We’ll send a reminder and any last-minute logistics a couple of days before.
