Warm Weather Photography Trips: May-August

Do you like to explore our state and take photos of the places and things you find? Join the Seattle Mountaineers Photography Committee during warmer weather as we explore and photograph places that are either new to us or have been forgotten.

The first trip is on Saturday, May 21, and is a day trip to Sedro-Wooley where we will check out the Northern State Mental Hospital and grounds. Most of the grounds & buildings are now part of a park with plenty of photo opportunities. Register at Northern State Ghost Town.

On Saturday, June 11, we travel to Elma on a day trip to the Satsop Nuclear Plant. This plant was partially built and never activated. These days it is used as a training location for digging tunnels and movie production. The Seattle PI wrote up a nice article about this place last year, with lots of pictures. Register at Satsop Nuclear Plant

On Saturday, June 25, we'll spend the day visiting heritage barns in Skagit County. Some of these barns still have the original milking stations and all have been registered with the state as a heritage barn. Register at Heritage Barns - Skagit Valley

Our first weekend trip starts on Saturday, July 23 and goes through Sunday, July 24. We will head east to take photos of wind turbines, old barns, a teapot shaped gas station, and setting up camp at Maryhill State Park where we'll share a potluck dinner. Towards dark, we'll head to the Goldendale Observatory for the evening show. Register at Southwest WA - Day 1

After we have breakfast on Sunday, we'll drive to the Maryhill Stonehenge (a WWI memorial) and along the Columbia River with a stop at Horsetail Falls (OR). On our drive north, we'll stop at a coffee pot shaped cafe for more pictures. Register at Southwest WA - Day 2

Another weekend trip is scheduled for Saturday, August 13 through Sunday, August 14 to the ghost town of Govan. On the way, we'll stop for pictures at Dry Falls and set up camp at Sun Lakes Dry Falls Sate Park. We'll photograph the old abandoned schoolhouse in Govan at dusk. After we depart on Sunday, we'll head to Leavenworth and spend 2-3 hours photographing the area. Register at Govan Ghost Town

On Sunday, August 21, we will take the ferry to Bremerton to take photos of the fountains and waterfront.
Register at Bremerton Waterfront
