Celebrate Volunteers and Multiply Your Impact for GiveBIG

This week, we’re sharing the love and celebrating the volunteers at the heart of our community. We’ve sent dozens of postcards to volunteers who had someone make a donation in their honor, inspired by the way they adventure with purpose, and a surprise match will now double donations on May 4 and May 5!

Celebrate Volunteers and Multiply Your Impact for GiveBIG
Share some love with a Mountaineers volunteer by giving in their honor! Photos by Colin Chapman, Matt Davey, Emily Goren, and Mckenzie Campbell Davies.

It feels good to give back. Just ask any of our 3,000+ volunteers who generously give their time and expertise to lead our trips, teach our courses, host our lodges, steer our committees, and more. Your gift today will multiply their impact!

You are invited to make a donation in honor of the volunteers who inspire you, like the leader whose sense of humor eased your anxiety, the instructor who encouraged you through the scary part, the lodge host who made the best dessert, or the mentor who made you feel seen.

When you give in honor of a volunteer, we’ll remind them of how awesome they are with a celebratory postcard!

Give in honor of a Mountaineer

In celebration of GiveBIG -- a regional day of giving where we invest in the kind of community we want to see -- your donation will be doubled! A few long-time Mountaineers members wanted to support this effort and are offering a dollar-for-dollar match of every gift you make on May 4 & 5, 2026.

“Gah... I just think this community is doing some of the most inspiring and important work of all time,” one volunteer shared after discovering a joyful postcard in her mailbox last week. “It is an honor to have played a small role.”

Charitable giving supports our vision to Adventure with Purpose. Your donation...

  • protects the natural world and the outdoor experience through advocacy, conservation education, and books that inspire action.
  • expands access to the outdoors by building an inclusive outdoor community and promoting diverse outdoor authors
  • shares outdoor skills with anyone who wants to learn through volunteer-led programs, maps, and guidebooks
  • invests in volunteer leaders through leadership development, volunteer recognition programs, and the tools and resources that make their work possible.

Who are you going to honor and why? Drop a note in the comments and then head over to our GiveBIG page to make a gift!
