Based on feedback from our 2025 Member Survey and input from our Advisory Council, we've redesigned our event discovery process to make Mountaineers member events easier to find and join. With events ranging from adventure speakers to film screenings to cooking workshops, there are plenty of incredible opportunities for Mountaineers to come together outside of regular courses and activities.
From the new event landing page, you can explore some of our most popular event categories, such as Adventure Speakers and Film Screenings. We've also mirrored how members find activities and courses with our new Find Events page. Here, you can filter events based on dates, activity types, key words, and type of event. This page will also make it easier for volunteers to find their programs and meetings and create a pre-filtered event list to share with their committees.
If you're a volunteer who creates events, the process for creating events remains the same within the branch event calendars you can find on our new Create New Event page or within your branch folder. You can still find space availability on the Seattle Program Center and Tacoma Program Center pages.
If you would like a refresher on how to create an event, read our detailed instructions for scheduling and managing events.
We hope these updated pages make it easier for our members to find events, create events, and engage with our community.
Understanding events at The Mountaineers
- Member events: Events open to members and sometimes to the public. These are events looking for attendees. Some member events are geared toward a particular audience (e.g. “prospective hike leaders” or “women and nonbinary scramblers”) but are open to any member who matches the description.
- Programs & meetings: Events for specific groups being managed elsewhere, such as committee meetings or lectures for a course. Frequently, these event listings are used to book space at a Program Center or put on a Branch Calendar for awareness.
- Branch events: If an event is tagged with a particular branch, it may be hosted by that branch or it may be geographically relevant to members of that branch. An event affiliated with a specific branch does not necessarily mean that the event is being hosted in that city or that it is only open to members associated with that branch.
