10 ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS
WHAT FIRST BROUGHT YOU TO THE MOUNTAINEERS?
Funny story... My husband and I had given up our spots to summit Mount Rainier one summer due to an unexpected event, so I passed mine on to a colleague. Some time later, he brought up The Mountaineers and shared about the amazing Mountaineers trips he went on with me. I hadn't heard of the organization before but the idea intrigued me enough to make me want to join in on the adventures too.
How did you get started as a volunteer?
After I had my son, I ran into some physical setbacks but still wanted to find a way to contribute my time to The Mountaineers. When I saw an opening for the Seattle Branch Treasurer, I decided to reach out about the role. Since then, I have volunteered in other roles and plan to try instructing in some courses next year.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MOUNTAINEERS MEMORY?
One of my instructors once shared local fresh cherries with our class at the summit of a scramble. It was such a simple but thoughtful moment. Most of my Mountaineers trips and memories have been genuinely wonderful experiences. The people are very encouraging and helpful, and the views are always so amazing!
What is one surprising thing you've learned through volunteering with The Mountaineers?
Things can feel intimidating at first, but the more you immerse yourself in activities, the more you will realize how welcoming the community is and how naturally your skills improve. It's a great way to learn new things and discover more about yourself along the way.
