Get to Know Travis Prescott, Chair of The Foothills Strategic Investment Subcommittee

Each month we try to introduce you to one of the Foothills Branch Council members or and activity committee chairs who make our Foothills Branch thrive. This month, meet the Strategic Investment Subcommittee Chair, Travis Prescott.

Travis Prescott has been the Foothills Strategic Investment Subcommittee Chair since its inception in 2022. He created the original pilot program, the Climbing and Scrambling Investment Pool, in 2021 to implement The Mountaineers branch support pilot for the Foothills Branch. When The Mountaineers continued the branch support program, the branch implemented a long-term replacement, the Strategic Investment Subcommittee, to manage the approval of these branch-directed funds, allowing anyone in the Foothills branch to contribute their donations and allowing any Foothills committee to submit proposals.

These funds have helped spur the growth of some of our newest and fastest growing committees — Trail Running, Climbing and Urban Walking — and have helped equip our most prolific backpacking leaders with two-way emergency communication devices to improve safety on long trips to remote destinations. The subcommittee recently approved funding to purchase safety equipment (reflector vests, traffic wands, safety flags) for Urban Walks leaders.

The Subcommittee receives and reviews proposals for the use of strategic funds and determines which proposals to approve based on available funding and their strategic value to the health of the Foothills branch. Most business is conducted online through Basecamp and, as necessary, via online meetings like Zoom. It is a rewarding opportunity with a low time commitment!

The Subcommittee operates with anywhere from three to six members. Currently, there are three members, and we are looking for more! If you are a Foothills member who cares about the branch’s growth and success, contact Travis to serve on the Subcommittee or submit a proposal!
