Backcountry Trail Run - South Coldwater Ridge

Run a half-marathon distance consisting of a single clockwise loop around Coldwater Lake. This will follow the Backcountry Rise half marathon route.

  • Strenuous
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 13.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 2,800 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 3,940 ft
  • Pace: 12-20 min/mile

Join me to run the Backcountry Rise Half Marathon course. The run consists of a single clockwise loop around Coldwater Lake. Runners will be treated to serene vistas of Coldwater Lake and Coldwater Creek canyon, including the majestic Mt. Margaret Backcountry and its many craggy ridgelines along miles of sweet singletrack trails.

Total elevation gain is 2,800ft and loss is 2,800ft.  Approximately 90% of the course is on single-track trails. There is about 1.2 miles of road running to complete the loop.

I want to do this run before the summer heat kicks in. We will power hike the uphills and run the flats and downhills. This appears to be fairly exposed in sections so be prepared for that with sun protection and water.

A Northwest Forest Pass or America the Beautiful Pass is required to park. A restroom is available at the trailhead.  Leader permission is required as this is a longer, exposed run.

Coldwater Ridge Visitor Center, ready to run at 9 am.
