Seminar Description

How do you manage the logistics and administration of leading trips? How do you step up to leading longer and more complex trips? This may be going from leading day hikes to a weekend backpack, or from leading local climbs to an expedition to the Andes. How do you ensure all the logistics are pinned down? Are you ready to manage any incidents?

I joke that logistics is the heart and soul of leadership. It is not the glamorous part of leadership, not an essential action of leadership, but you will spend a lot of time on logistics and administration. It is important to get the logistics right, otherwise there maybe problems, some insurmountable.  As our trips get more complex, so do the logistics.  Taking on more complex logistics can be an obstacle to leading more complex trip.

And then, what if something goes wrong. Will you have what is needed? Will you know what to do? How do you prepare for all eventualities?

Where does authority to be a leader come from?  Do you have confidence in your authority?  Can you increase that confidence?

I don’t have any universal solutions. Every trip is different, so all logistics are different. But I have been leading trips of 1 to 3 weeks, often technical, often to remote places, with general success. I can give you ways to think about logistics, some tools, and encouragement.
