Feedback Surveys

Feedback surveys are sent to participants in our activities, courses, and events. These surveys are designed to help our leaders and committees improve our programs and to be sure that they are the best they can be.

What are feedback surveys?

We created feedback surveys for our members and guests who participate in trips, events, courses (one for participants and one for instructors), and course-related activities to give feedback to those who lead, teach, and administer all of our programs. We truly value all feedback, need it, and will use it to improve our trip offerings, programs and leadership.

Feedback surveys are available the day after an activity, course, or event ends. This means participants have the trip in the forefront of their minds and so do the leaders when giving and receiving feedback. This allows leaders to implement any feedback received for future trips that could be happening as soon as next weekend.

Leaders will see that the Feedback Form is a required field on all activities, courses and events. A default feedback form is supplied depending on whether the listing is a trip, course or event, but a different form may be chosen if you believe a different set of questions in one of the other forms is more applicable. Can't remember what questions are on each form? No problem--view the default online feedback forms. If you are running a new program or course and have some specific questions you wish to ask your participants then you may wish to create a survey using The Mountaineers' survey gizmo account.

*Please note if you want to change the default survey or make a fancy survey in survey gizmo this needs to be completed and connected to the course/activity BEFORE registration opens by member services. Feedback surveys may be added to past activities, courses and events by editing the activity but this will not generate a confirmation email- they will only be accessible for participants to take via the "Give" feedback link on their My Activities or My Courses pages.

Prior to August 2015, we sent surveys only for all "stand alone" trips and occasionally for courses. The trip surveys used SurveyGizmo, were managed by a lone volunteer who requests sent out more than a  week after the trip. Survey responses were collected and then sent out once or twice a year to leaders and committee chairs. The information was also stored in an area separate from our website, so it was not easily accessible.

We now have a much improved process fully integrated with our website!

How do I give feedback?

My Profile pages. The day after an activity or event ends, use the "Give" link in the "Feedback" column on your My Activities page. The day after a course's end date, use the "Give" link in the "Feedback" column on your My Courses page. Feedback is not editable, so be sure you're happy with what you've entered before submitting it.You can view the feedback you've given using the "View" links on your My Activities and My Courses pages.

"Detail" pages. On the activity, course and event details pages, the ones where you registered, you'll find "Give Feedback" and "View Feedback" buttons on the right side of the page.

Email reminders are automatically sent to participants the day after the end date of the activity, course or event. 

Your feedback is anonymous. Leaders and committee administrators who can review feedback only see the feedback responses. They do NOT see who gave the feedback. If you report a safety concern as part of your feedback, we will share your concern, name and contact info with our Safety Committee. They may contact you for more information, but rest assured that they will keep your information completely confidential.

where do i find feedback I've received?

Leaders may view their feedback survey responses using the "All" links in the "Feedback" column of their My Activities and My Courses pages in addition to the "All Feedback" buttons on the activity course and event detail pages.


Leaders also have a new "My Feedback" page on their My Profile page where they can view feedback responses in these groups for a chosen feedback response date range:

  • Activities (aka "Trips")
  • Courses - Students & Graduates
  • Courses - Instructors
  • Lectures, Field Trips and Seminars
  • Events

Committee administrators have access to the information above for those who are leaders for their committee.
