Sol Duc Hot Springs Car Camp

Experience a beautiful lake view, rain forest, spectacular waterfall and soothing hotsprings on an enchanted weekend car camp in the scenic northern part of Olympic National Park.

This is a two-day car camp involving day hiking the Spruce Railroad Trail on Saturday, camping Saturday night at two reserved adjacent campsites in Loop B of Sol Duc Resort Campground and day hiking to Sol Duc Falls on a loop hike on Sunday.  There is the option to soak in the hot spring pools for a nominal fee on either Saturday or Sunday afternoon.  Registration for the car camp is by registering for both day hikes on the Mountaineers day hikes listings (click on the green buttons below).  Camping in one of the reserved campsites in Sol Duc Campground is required of everyone registered for the two day hikes.  Anyone registered for one of the day hikes must also register for the other one.

Saturday 6/1 Spruce Railroad Trail Hike

Sunday  6/2 Sol Duc Falls Hike

The car camp begins by meeting at 11:30 AM Saturday in the lobby of the Log Cabin Resort on the north side of Lake Crescent.  From there we will caravan to the nearby north trailhead of the Spruce Railroad trail, where we have our trail lunch at a picnic table, near restrooms.  Then we will hike through a restored railroad tunnel to the end of the trail and return via the Devil's Punch Bowl, where cliff divers are often seen.  Then we drive around Lake Crescent and up the Sol Duc Road, showing a National Park Pass for each car at the Olympic Natiional Park entrance gate, to the Sol Duc Campground Loop B, where we set up camp in campsites 78 and 79.  Then we have the option for a soak in the hot spring pools for a nominal fee.  We'll than have a camp dinner, followed by smores around the campfire.

Sunday morning we'll have a camp breakfast, break camp and then drive to the Sol Duc Resort parking lot, where we park and then reassemble on the front porch of the Sol Duc Resort in preparation for our loop hike to Sol Duc Falls and back through beautiful rain forest.  We will have our trail lunch at spectacular Sol Duc Falls.  After the hike there is the option for another soak in the hot springs.

On the drive home we will have the option of a dinner stop at one of three iconic restaurants along the driving route, depending on where we are at meal time.
