Cross-Country Ski Hot Waxing Clinic - Mountaineers Tacoma Program Center

Learn how to Hot Wax your skis for a smoother and faster glide on the trails.

  • Moderate

Enhance your xc skiing experience this winter by learning the Whys and  Hows of Hot Waxing your XC Skis to improve your ski bases, glide, and speed.

This beginning xc hot wax class is for you if…

  1. You will do an Independent Study of the class information before the hands-on class.  Class information includes Hot Wax Google Slide Show and documents which will be sent out to registered participants before the class.
  2. You want an opportunity to ask questions about the Hot Wax science and process.
  3. You want to see a demonstration of  How to Hot Wax XC Skis and see how the tools are used.
  4. You want an opportunity to have a hands-on experience Hot Waxing your XC Skis.
  5. You have or plan to buy the basic Hot Wax Tool Kit  BEFORE the class. (Materials list will be sent out in mid-October)
  6. You are one of 4 people who have NO XC Ski Hot Wax Tools and have asked for permission to be one of the 4 skiers who use two tables with supplied hot wax tools.

By mid-October all registered participants for the class will receive a Hot Wax Supply List to buy your own supplies. We will supply the hot wax for the table.

Bring your own wax tools to the clinic, and we will provide the hot wax,  table and expertise to help you learn The Art of Hot Waxing Skis.

Each waxing table with two set-ups will share a waxing coach.

We will have 2 hot-wax station set-ups with waxing tools and supplies provided for four people without their own supplies. First come, first serve. Let me know ASAP if you will be on the list of 4 folks without wax tools.

FYI....Hot waxing skis can be done from home in a garage, balcony, car port, shed, etc...All you need are a few waxing tools, xc wax bars, iron, ski vices, access to an electrical outlet, and ventilation.

Description  Skiing on miles of trails through forests, meadows, and up and down hills coupled with the sensations of gliding and skiing efficiently on snow are the biggest enjoyment factors in cross-country skiing.  Enhance your xc skiing experience this winter by learning the Whys and  Hows of  Hot Waxing   your skis to improve your ski bases, glide, and speed.

Both skate and classic waxless skis need hot wax. Waxless classic skis NEED wax on both their tips and tails- always. Waxless refers to the classic ski kick zone.

You will learn:

  • what equipment and supplies are needed to make a home waxing station
  • how to set-up a home waxing station
  • how to choose the proper hot wax by temperature and speed
  • how to apply, remove, and brush  the wax out of the ski glide zone
  • a wax tip on how to keep the kick zone free of clumping snow

Once a XC skier experiences skiing on recently hot waxed skis with improved glide and speed, the skier NEVER wants to return to the NO hot waxing days.
