- Wed, Jan 23, 2019 from 07:00 PM to 09:00 PM
- Walking the Wild Committee
- The Mountaineers
- iCal
In another evening of grand photos and storytelling from the wilds of the world, Peter Hendrickson will tell of trekking five stages of Italy’s Alta Via Due through the Dolomites. In addition to his photos, Peter will talk about how he and his wife decided to mix Via Ferrata (cable-aided) scrambling with a five-day hike. Learn about what it takes to prepare, European travel tips, the specialized via ferrata gear, the languages, the tragic history of two world wars, the mountain huts, the food, the day-to-day stories, and the folks they encountered.
"In my 50 years of long walks in Tasmania, Nepal, Europe, Britain and South America, the self-guided week heading south from Bressanone/Brixen this was the first time mixing protected ‘iron road’ climbing paths with hut to hut hiking.” -- Peter Hendrickson
Peter is an avid outdoorsman and a Mountaineer since 2005 where he serves as chair of the Seattle Branch. He and his wife, Nancy Temkin, instruct wilderness navigation and hiking, travel on snow and lead day hikes in the mountains plus night hikes in the city. Drawn to the Salish Sea, they also paddle wooden kayaks built at their Redmond grassfed beef farm. Active traumatic brain injury researchers, their work fuels many of their travels.
Tickets are $10 for Mountaineers members, $15 for the general public (plus a small processing fee). The ticket price includes a great selection of drinks and snacks. Don't miss this great event that will appeal to the adventurer in all of us!
