A Brief Golden Light: John Porter's History with Himalayan Alpinism

Join us as John Porter - esteemed alpinist, author, and current President of the UK-based Alpine Club, shares lesser known stories about mountaineering history, and "the generation that nearly climbed itself into extinction."

John Porter is a climber's climber. He's embarked with some of the sport's most notable names and has ventured to some of the world's most acclaimed summits. Now he's willing to share his legendary stories with our mountaineering community.

In this lecture at the Seattle Program Center, John Porter will describe his mountaineering history, including such climbs as the northeast face of Bandaka, the south face of Changabang (both still unrepeated), Everest in winter, Annapurna, and K2 in 1986.
