Molly Mitchell | Finding the Fight
Molly Mitchell began climbing when she was 16 years old in 2009, and she has achieved some notable trad and sport climbing ascents in her career. But according to her, it hasn’t always been the most straightforward path to success. Mitchell first became well known with her scary single pitch trad ticks and First Ascents in 2015. After climbing some R and X rated routes, she admitted to having to overcome some intense mental and physical obstacles while finding her path in climbing. When Mitchell was 20 years old, she developed a viral thyroid disease, and shortly after became diagnosed with an anxiety disorder. She attributes learning how to manage her anxiety with her mental fortitude in her trad ascents, but she still has to deal with this anxiety on a daily basis.
In the past few years, she’s turned to sport climbing, claiming that coaching kids has helped her tremendously to get out of her head and believe in herself wholeheartedly. She loves to be silly with the kids and find humor in hard situations. Realizing this in herself has helped her to get over ego and focus on the important things in life. In her speech, Mitchell will cover her path in climbing – learning how to find purpose in the success and failures, all while constantly battling her inner struggles. One of the most important things for her is that people can relate, be inspired by, or learn something from her own journey to becoming a Professional Rock Climber. Sometimes the journey is harder than it seems, and she wishes to be completely vulnerable in all the things she’s had to learn (and still has to learn) in order to be successful in her climbing.
