January's edition of Bikes & Brews features an incredible story of bravery and survival. 5 women are out on a gravel ride on a well-known route on a beautiful winter day. The most unlikely and unimaginable encounter turns into a 45 min fight for life and death with a cougar. The bravery, resoucefulness and resilience of the women saves the life of Keri and bonds them for life. The Mountaineers are honored to hear their story directly for the first time. Keri, Annie and Aune will also share many lessons learned about how to prevent and protect themselves from dangerous wildlife encounters.

Their act was nothing but heroic which was recognized with them receiving the Carnegie medal, North America's highest civilian honor for heroism, awarded for acts of extraordinary courage where a civilian voluntarily risks death or serious injury to save another person's life.
These women are Mountaineers, they are our friends and an integral part of our bikepacking community and we at the Mountaineers are honored to hear their story directly for the first time. Keri, Annie and Aune will also share many lessons learned about how to prevent and protect themselves from dangerous wildlife encounters. A presentation not to be missed!

Doors open at 6:30 for social hour and brews. Light snacks provided. Bring your own dinner or eat beforehand.

Presentation begins at 7 PM with time for questions at the end.
