Introduction to Hiking - Online Classroom

Introduction to Hiking is a 90-minute online seminar that aims to provide those new to hiking and/or hiking in the Pacific Northwest with the knowledge and skills necessary to hike happily, responsibly, and safely.

Zoom meeting, 6:30 - 8:00 pm. Zoom link will be sent to registered participants a few days before the seminar.

Course materials will include links to a variety of resources and classes for continuing learning. Topics covered include: 

  • Selecting, researching, and planning a hike 
  • Essential gear 
  • Weather, trail conditions 
  • Emergency preparedness
  • Navigation
  • Nutrition/Hydration 
  • Common Hazards 

Non-mountaineers members can apply the course fee to the Mountaineers membership fee if they join within 30 days of taking the seminar.
