CHS 2 Hike

Field trip: Conditioning Hiking Series

CHS 2 Hike - Sourdough Mountain

This steep hike rewards with awesome views of breathtaking North Cascades peaks and gorgeous, turquoise Diablo Lake shimmering down below. The trail heads up steeply and steadily through forests and meadows bursting with wildflowers to one of the first lookouts established by the US Forest Service. Sourdough Mountain is a strenuous hike worth the effort. We plan to take short breaks at least once an hour and enjoy our lunch at the lookout for about 20 minutes. CHS hike led at a CHS 2 pace (2.0-3.0 mph)

  • Very Strenuous
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 11.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 5,100 ft
  • Pace: 2.0-3.0 mph

We will meet at the Sourdough Mountain Trailhead at 8:45 am ready to hike. It is about a 2.5 hour drive from Seattle and hikers can arrange carpools as makes sense.

This hike will be lead at a CHS2 pace. Since it is a steep hike that will impact our pace, I anticipate we will have about 7 hours of hiking and we will be coming off the trail in the late afternoon.
