We'll be starting from the top at the Wellington trailhead and hiking the railroad grade trail through and around the old snow tunnels used to protect trains as they crossed Stevens Pass in the winter. In 1910, the deadliest avalanche in US history occurred here during a winter storm that destroyed two trains stranded in the deepening snow. We will see wildflowers, luscious trees, and views of the surrounding mountains as we travel through history. While this will be a long day, we will have time to stop to read the information kiosks and photograph the beauty surrounding us. Please be prepared to spend the day on the trail (no late afternoon or early evening plans).
We will be meeting early as this will be a long day. More info to come.
