This 2 hour evening seminar provides experienced trail runners with information to help them become effective trail running leaders for the Mountaineers. Come run with us and help others get outdoors! This seminar is a prerequisite (along with a mentored trail run and/or committee approval) to becoming an official trail run leader for the club and is the first such seminar offered for our newest trail running branch! The workshop is free and open to all Mountaineers members, but please register online so we can schedule the right number of instructors (and ask for more chairs, if needed).

Seminar objectives:

  • Know the kinds of trips you want to lead, and how to attract participants who have the same interests and capabilities.
  • Understand and be prepared to carry out the roles and expectations of a trail running leader for the Mountaineers.
  • Be prepared and confident to handle common challenges you will encounter leading groups on the trail.
  • Be ready to take the next steps to become a hike or backpack leader for the Mountaineers.
  • To set the standard for all runs. We realize that we have many very experienced leaders in the group; the want is to create a set is to get everyone, new and experienced, aligned to the same leading principles and expectations.
A major part of the session is built around discussion about common leadership decision-making challenges from real-life leader experiences.
