Basic Snowshoeing Equivalency - Foothills - 2022

Snowshoeing Course

Basic Snowshoeing Equivalency

PLEASE DO NOT SIGN UP WITHOUT SPEAKING WITH FOOTHILLS SNOWSHOEING COMMITTEE FIRST. This is for granting Basic Snowshoeing equivalency to those with previous training and basic snowshoeing experience. It is not a live course with activities. If you'd like to learn to snowshoe with us please search the website for current courses.

Equivalency allows members with appropriate levels of previous training and experience to bypass the Basic Snowshoeing course.

The steps in the process are:

  • An application that provides details on your snowshoeing experience and avalanche safety education. Select the Foothills branch as your home branch to direct your application to our committee.
  • A conversation with one of our Foothills Snowshoeing committee members to discuss your application and experience.
  • Based on this conversation: we may refer you to take our regularly scheduled Foothills Basic snowshoeing course or we may ask you to register and pay the fee for our Equivalency course.
  • Members of the Equivalency course are typically asked to:
    • help with our Foothills Basic snowshoeing  course, often by taking part in one of the weekend field trips
    • and/or to take part in a Basic level snowshoe trip to demonstrate  their proficiency.

To apply for equivalency, click the blue APPLY button under the heading of "REGISTER PARTICIPANT" at right, then complete the online application to provide details of your snowshoeing experience and avalanche safety education.
