Please prepare in advance by purchasing your Compass, Maps, and Book as described on the Course Page (link to the course page is to the right).

ONLINE LEARNIG:

The online Map & Compass module provides the foundation for the activities that follow. It is not optional and is not a substitute for other components.  Please consider your ability to work independently and  set aside the time you'll need to complete this course (It takes approximately 4 to 5 hours, not including the reading time.

One week before start date, you'll receive an email from our online learning platform, Coassemble, with registration instructions and a link to the system. Coassemble is a separate system from Mountaineers.org. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU USE THE SAME EMAIL ADDRESS THAT IS LISTED IN YOUR USER PROFILE.  A volunteer instructor will be assigned to help you, to answer questions, etc.   You may work the modules in any order and  you must complete at least 87% of the online modules to be deemed complete.    Your computer system requirements are listed in the Course Materials tab of the Course Page.

Compass and Maps:

See Required Equipment tab on the main Course Page. You need an approved compass and download a pdf of the USGS Baring map for this online module.  Only specific compasses will be accepted, so before purchasing a compass make sure to read our compass requirements.

Rescheduling or cancellation:

If you cannot finish this module within the time allotted, please contact your instructor as this is a prerequisite for the In-Person Workshop.

We treat this activity the same as any kind of in-person activity.  If you don't begin, you'll be marked as a no-show.  If you don't finish, you'll be marked as unsuccessful.

You can make changes on your own, prior to the registration close dates, or you can contact the course leader or member services to cancel or change.

INSTRUCTORS:

Your main role will be to answer questions and "mark" or grade certain modules. The Mountaineer's online learning platform, Coassemble, will email students registration and login information. Coassemble tracks student's progress, and manages completion.
