This online evening seminar provides experienced Mountaineers hikers, backpackers or urban walkers information and resources they need to become an effective hike-backpack-urban walk leaders for the Mountaineers. This seminar is one of the requirements for becoming an official hike-backpack-urban walk leader for the club. The seminar is free and open to all Mountaineers members. Seminar participants are Mountaineers members in good standing, who have participated on trips for the activity that they want to lead.

This 2-75-3 hour online evening seminar provides experienced Mountaineers hikers, backpackers or urban walkers information and resources they need to become an effective hike-backpack-urban walk leader for the Mountaineers. This course is a pre-requisite for becoming an official hike-backpack-urban walk leader for the club.
Seminar objectives:
- Understand the steps and requirements for becoming a hike-backpack-urban walk leader and be ready to take the next steps to become a hike-backpack-urban walk leader for the Mountaineers.
- Understand and be prepared to carry out the roles and expectations of a hike-backpack-urban walk leader for the Mountaineers.
- Know the kinds of trips you want to lead, and how to attract participants who have the same interests and capabilities.
- Be prepared and confident to handle common challenges you may encounter while leading group trips.
- Practice common leadership decision-making challenges from real-life leader experiences.
In advance of the seminar participants will receive information for the Zoom session and links to resources and activities that we will cover in the seminar. Some advance preparation is necessary.
This is an online Zoom seminar. This seminar typically runs 2.75 to 3 hours depending on the group, starting at 6:15 pm. The seminar is interactive and you are expected to participate in role playing and breakout room scenario activities.
We will log in early for our online evening seminar, and we encourage you to log in early as well, so that we are ready to go 6:15 pm. You will be muted but may unmute as needed and may type questions and comments into the chat which we will be monitoring.
