Field trip: GoHike: Beginner Hiking Course

September Hikes: 4 to 8 miles, 750 to 2,000 feet gain - Ptarmigan Ridge

An exceptional opportunity for an easy walk that starts at 5000' above treeline with Mount Baker and Mount Shuksan filling the backdrop along the majority of the way. The trail meanders along Ptarmigan Ridge following the Park Glacier climbing approach for summitting Mount Baker. The views are mind-boggling in this alpine moonscape surrounded by the big mountains on the western flank of the North Cascades. This hike counts toward your monthly required GoHike course September trips.

Artist Point parking lot is exceptionally busy even after Labor Day weekend and this requires an early arrival to ensure parking. If driving from Seattle/Bellevue the drive is about 2hrs 50mins. This would require a 4:30am leave time with buffer time for a couple of convenience stops.  There are many options for camping or lodging along the way to facilitate a shorter drive the day of the hike. Finer details of the trip will be provided after sign up.

Meet at Artist Point TH at 8:00am.
