June Hikes: 3.5 to 6 miles, 400 to 1,500 feet gain

Field trip: GoHike: Beginner Hiking Course

June Hikes: 3.5 to 6 miles, 400 to 1,500 feet gain - Cougar Mountain: Harvey Manning Trailhead

We will be starting with a walk up to the Million Dollar Viewpoint to get a birds' eye view of Cougar Mountain and the valley. We will then hike the Shangri-La Trail out to the Fantastic Erratic glacial boulder, then back on the Tibbetts Creek Trail, then make a loop of the Coyote Creek and Lost Beagle trails back to the trailhead. There are abundant wildflowers along the way, plus some views of Tiger Mountain and Lake Sammamish, and even the Olympics on a clear day. This hike counts toward your monthly required GoHike course June trips.

  • Easy/Moderate
  • Easy
  • Mileage: 4.1 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 800 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 1,400 ft
  • Pace: 1.5-2

We will make a few stops along the route for clothing adjustments and snacks. The only restrooms are at the trailhead.

My walk style is social and nature-focused. We will take regular breaks and encourage going at a pace where you can still talk. The group will stay together and move at the pace of the slowest person. I encourage you to tune into the quiet of the forest and your fellow GoHikers. Please feel free to bring a charged phone and take pictures but refrain from taking or making phone calls while on the trail unless absolutely necessary.

Further details will be sent out in a Hello Hiker email on June 20: Registration closes on June 20

Meet at the Cougar Mountain Harvey Manning Trailhead (formerly known as Anti-Aircraft Peak) at 11AM for an 11:15 start.

No pass is required. Plan to arrive at the meeting point ready to begin at the posted start time. This means arriving by 11AM for an introductory talk before we hit the trail at 11:15.
This is a popular trailhead so parking may be limited - I encourage carpooling.
