June Hikes: 3.5 to 6 miles, 400 to 1,500 feet gain - Big Tree Ridge

Field trip: GoHike: Beginner Hiking Course

June Hikes: 3.5 to 6 miles, 400 to 1,500 feet gain - Big Tree Ridge

Join us on the lesser-known Big Tree Ridge trail, ascending to the “Million Dollar View” Pergola. It's a looped trail, offering plenty of scenic variations along the way. We'll take a well-earned break at the viewpoint, overlooking Lake Sammamish. Weather permitting, we'll also take in the snow capped peak of Mt. Baker. This picturesque hike promises a heart-pumping and satisfying challenge. See you there!

From I-90 east, take exit 13 and head south on Lakemont Blvd SE and turn left to Newport Way immediately, heading southeast toward Issaquah for 1.8 miles. 0.3 miles past a roundabout, there is an entrance to the parking lot on the right.

No parking pass required

Portalets at the trailhead and summit

The trail might be a bit steeper than others. But, many hikers can handle a tougher climb by going slower. If you've hiked Rattlesnake Ledge, it's pretty similar. Just a heads up, we'll be moving at a minimum pace of 1.5, as per GoHike standards. It's important you are comfortable with that pace on a climb.

The accent is meticulously groomed. On the descent, we'll choose a beautiful more rustic trail for a diverse experience. Poles help with balance. They prevent stumbles on roots. They also help when stepping across a seasonal creek bed. The creek is probably dry but rocky. They also aid climbs and protect joints.

Don't forget to grab a sitting pad in case the picnic tables are taken at the summit.

See you on the trail!
