Backpacking Building Blocks Student-Only Backpack - East Baker Lake

Hike along Baker Lake and get views of Mt Baker and Mt Shuksan all day long. The oldest known Douglas Fir known in the Cascades lies "hidden" in this area! Priority will be given to Luis & Karla mentor group until April 1st.

There are bear lockers at campsites, so no need for a bear canister. An Ursack or similar is suggested in case the campsites are full and we need to disperse camp.

Depending on the weather and the group's eagerness/morale, we can add a day-hike to see Big Doug - The largest known Douglas Fir in the Cascades. This day hike adds 5 miles, with about 1200ft of gain. Day 1 would be 11.5 miles (about half of it with a day pack only).

Inclement weather will cancel the trip; constant precipitation that leads to 1 inch of rain per day, sustained high winds, or wind gusts that make it dangerous to be in a tent close to trees.
