Field trip: Backpacking Building Blocks (B3) Course

Backpacking Building Blocks Student-Only Backpack - Ancient Lake

This field trip will give B3 students the opportunity to try out gear and new skills on an easy overnight backpack with an experienced mentor. If you've ever wanted to hike in a place that looks like the set of a Wild West movie, this is your chance!

Tibbetts Valley Park Parking Lot, Issaquah, WA

8AM

The parking lot is in the northwest corner of the park and is accessible via Newport Way. Don't confuse this for the giant parking garage structure across the street.

Normal backpacking filters/treatment methods do not work on the water here due to farm runoff. However, I will bring a Sawyer S1 filter which is capable of removing pesticides from the water. You should still plan on carrying extra water (or keeping it in the cars, which will be just minutes away) just in case.

After setting up camp we may take some time to head up to the notch in the wall to get a view of Dusty Lake and its white bathtub ring, and I'll point out a coyote den and some "petroglyphs" as well.
