Alpine Conditioner - West Tiger Mountain No. 1

Come enjoy some social uphill conditioning in the atmospheric river—West Tiger 1 is a great place to practice optimism when everything is wet.

Plan to carry a pack weight that feels moderately challenging but not heavy. Since it’s still early in the conditioning season, aim for a percentage of the 35–40 lbs you’ll want to be comfortable with by late April—something light enough to keep a steady pace while still giving your legs work to do.

Our goal is to move at an average of about 1,500 ft of elevation gain per hour on the ascent. We’ll take the High Point Trail to Dwight’s Way, then turn right onto the West Tiger No. 1 Trail and follow it to the summit. From there, we’ll step slightly back into the trees for a quick bio break before beginning our descent on the same route.

I encourage everyone to carry the same pack weight downhill. It’s one of the most effective ways to build the strength and stability you’ll rely on for long climbing days later in the season.

Group Travel Expectation (Important)

We will try to stay together as a group for both the ascent and the descent.
No one hikes ahead of the designated lead or behind the designated sweep, and no one hikes alone— because shared company makes a slog feel more like Type 2 fun and less like a lonely uphill/downhill life choice.

If you’re currently in a climbing or scrambling course (any branch), if we’ve climbed or scrambled together before, or if you’ve been on one of my conditioners, you may sign up directly.
Everyone else—please use the “Request Leader Permission” button and share a quick note about your recent conditioning and what you're hoping to work on.
