• Cathie Frizalone/Michele Rushworth: review status of planning and enrollment for Basic Course. 

• Michele Rushworth: new Trip Leaders, and trainees

•  Michele Rushworth: Update on recommendations for Sea Kayak Summit, specifically this proposal: 

  Background: The 2024 SK Summit charged this group to respond to a safety report concern that not all SK leaders across branches have a sufficient or uniform assessment of risk. A summary of the sub-committee’s meeting is attached.

  Recommendations:

  • Add a leadership requirement to the Minimum SK Standards, that all leaders approved in the future be required to take an all-day Incident Management clinic.
  • Current leaders could be encouraged to take an IM clinic, if they have not already had one.
  • Branches should offer leader training opportunities. Cross-branch opportunities are encouraged for “cross-fertilization”. These could include on-the-water training days, a self-assessment framework or other.
  • Leaders could also be encouraged to teach/assist with skills clinics, and to take the Mountaineers eLearning Foundations of Leadership course participate in the annual leadership summit (especially the risk track), or otherwise extend their leadership and risk management skills.
