Location: 47.543749, -120.734952

 7am

Students will rotate between anchor "ground school" and climbing top roped on single pitch routes. They will build and evaluate more 3-piece gear anchors, review basic lead belay technique and dive into finer points of lead belaying.

Students learn to setup and climb with a mock-lead rope system, used as a bridge between top roping and true leading.  They will continue practicing and evaluating trad gear placements in a variety of (granite) rock features and will build their own climbing protection systems under the close supervision of instructors.  We will emphasize how and when to employ omnidirectional pieces and the ideal spacing of pieces to prevent a ground fall.

The main goal of this weekend is to put together the skills practiced up to this point to produce a functional climbing protection system in a realistic context.  Fundamentals of solid gear placement and good lead belay technique are the basis of our protection and they will be the focus of this and all future field trips.
