Thank you for Supporting Future Mountaineers this #GivingTuesday

This #GivingTuesday, The Mountaineers community stepped up once again to support scholarships for our growing outdoor community.

Through social media fundraisers, donor advised funds, gifts over the phone, and more, you helped us raise $10,000 toward our 2019 scholarship goal of $25,000. We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to all those donors who offered their support - your donations make our work possible, and truly make a difference in the lives of so many in our community.

If you missed your chance to support us on #GivingTuesday, we would like to announce an exciting opportunity to double your impact this giving season.

double your impact

Our partners at Patagonia have set up a $10M matching pool to stretch your dollars further from now until the end of December. Your $10 donation could become $20, or your $1,000 gift could turn into $2,000! Double your impact today by making a gift  to our Patagonia Action Works page before the chance is gone.

Scholarships do so much more than offer someone a single course. These outdoor experiences foster community, create future volunteers, and serve as an important bridge between recreation and conservation. Inspiring new conservationists to become advocates - especially those who may not have built those connections otherwise - is immeasurably valuable for our public lands.

How SCHOLARSHIPS MAKE A DIFFERENCE

“This year was my first year with The Mountaineers. My husband and I joined to meet like-minded people who just wanted to spend some time outside and enjoy the beauty that the Pacific Northwest has to offer. I did not have outdoor experiences growing up so I felt I was playing catch-up. Our education through The Mountaineers has been amazing and has helped me to appreciate spending more time outside and staying active. Without your generous support I wouldn’t have gained these important skills or participated in these experiences.

"This year I was able to enroll in both Wilderness Navigation and Wilderness First Aid thanks to a Mountaineers scholarship. I remember reading the requirements for Wilderness Navigation and the feeling of anxiety building up when I saw we had to do solo navigation as part of the exercises. Thanks to the course leaders who provided excellent feedback and tips during the course, I landed exactly at the end point for the solo navigation exercise! Not only did I gain valuable navigation skills, I gained confidence in myself to do these activities that are normally outside of my comfort zone.

"I'm so grateful for the donors and volunteers who decided to pay it forward by helping  completely novice students like me gain the necessary skills to stay safe, aware, and ready for the outdoors. I can't wait to take the knowledge I've acquired and pass it down to my future Mountaineer kid. The work of The Mountaineers is not only important for giving back to the community but also important for preserving the natural beauty of the PNW for future generations of Mountaineers.”
