The Tacoma Stewardship Committee Chair position is open! To continue the growth of stewardship in the Tacoma Branch, we need to fill this role by April 1. Without a Chair, the committee will be inactive and unable to continue supporting stewardship programming until a Chair is identified.

This is a meaningful opportunity to help shape the future of the Tacoma Branch Conservation & Stewardship Committee by communicating org-wide expectations and new initiatives, and by leading with the mission and vision of the committee and The Mountaineers as a whole. Through actions and communications, the Chair fosters a culture of belonging, community, and education, ensuring a positive experience for both leaders and participants.

What does the Tacoma Stewardship Chair do?

The committee is in the early stages of developing stewardship for the branch, and as such, the time commitment for this role ebbs and flows with no consistent monthly average. Some months may require only a couple of hours, and others may be closer to 10 hours (especially when planning engagement efforts to recruit leaders, align with org-wide initiatives, decide on regular committee meetings, or revise the charter and other documents).

Key responsibilities include:

  • Committee development. Recruit new members and leaders for the committee.
  • Leader and mentor coordination: Match aspiring leaders with mentors and guide mentees through the process of becoming a Stewardship Leader and/or Mentor.
  • Committee webpage and document maintenance. Maintain the Tacoma Conservation & Stewardship committee webpage and keep key documents up to date.
  • Leader communications and engagement. Establish a regular cadence of communication that may include leader resources and training, Charter updates (as needed), and more.

About you

You don’t need to be an expert! We're looking for someone who believes in The Mountaineers mission and is ready to help grow stewardship efforts in our branch.

Qualities that would help someone succeed in this role include:

  • A strong sense of community, belonging, and engagement
  • Compassionate, supportive leadership and advocacy for volunteer leaders
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with balance and tact
  • Comfort collaborating with other activity committees and the Tacoma Council to support stewardship efforts
  • Empathy for the individual stories in our community and a desire to foster leader success

Benefits

In addition to being a meaningful leadership opportunity, this role includes:

  • 40-50% off Black Diamond (and more pro deals on the way)
  • Your choice of either 30% off a course or one free adult membership
  • A single-use 50% discount code for Mountaineers Books

Whether you’ve led for years or are exploring leadership for the first time, we’d love to hear from you. If you’re interested, or know someone who might be a great fit, please email the Tacoma Branch Chair, Danny Casady, at danny.casady@gmail.com.

Thank you for considering this opportunity.
