On June 4, we completed a new concrete pathway at our Seattle Program Center, improving access into our building for people in wheelchairs, caterers, and anyone using wheels. The path stands not just as a functional improvement, but as a symbol of community, generosity, and teamwork. I want to extend my deepest thanks to three incredible individuals who made this project possible: Elizabeth Nakashima, John Rollins, and Trent Jackson.
A Pathway Built With Generosity, Skill, & Heart
Elizabeth Nakashima
I want to recognize Elizabeth’s extraordinary contributions to The Mountaineers. A Super Volunteer, Key Leader, Key Instructor, hike leader, ski instructor, and stewardship lead at our Seattle Program Center, Elizabeth played a key role in the pathway’s planning and logistics. Her vision to make the exterior of The Mountaineers building beautiful and functional was the spark that made this project happen. Her generosity and dedication are truly inspiring. We could not have done it without her.
John Rollins
John is a Super Volunteer and climb leader, and has been a cornerstone of our Seattle Program Center since its inception. From renovating the building to leading two buildouts in our office, building benches and storage spaces, and supporting too many other small projects to number, his craftsmanship and willingness to help have been invaluable. For the pathway, John was there every step of the way - prepping the site, pouring concrete, and handling cleanup. I couldn’t have done it without him, and I’m deeply grateful for his continued support and willingness to listen to my bad jokes and questionable project ideas.
Trent Jackson
Trent (of Jackson's Concrete and Excavation) came in like an angel at the last minute, bringing not only his expertise but also his generosity. He donated his time and skill to ensure the pathway was laid with durable, high-quality concrete. He saved us from back-breaking concrete mixing, and ensured the pathway would look great and be super durable. Thanks to Trent, the final result is more beautiful and long-lasting than we could have hoped for.
This pathway is more than just a stretch of concrete - it’s a testament to what we can achieve together. Thank you, Elizabeth, John, and Trent, for donating your time, talents, and resources to make this project happen.
