10 Essential Questions:

What first brought you to The Mountaineers?

I recently moved to Seattle from Chicago in pursuit of an outdoor lifestyle. I have always loved hiking, biking, scrambling, and camping but growing up in the Midwest, I could only scratch this itch over the holidays. Now that the Cascades are in my backyard, I'm eager for new experiences and a community aligned with my interests. I have joined The Mountaineers to pick up the skills and knowledge necessary to summit glaciated peaks in the area, but look forward to meeting new people and making friends along the way!

Why do you like getting outside with us?

I love pushing myself to new limits in the outdoors and value The Mountaineers as a resource for doing so responsibly. Being new to the area, I could not have asked for a better community of passionate and knowledgeable adventurers. Thus far, my participation in Mountaineers courses, events, and activities has offered new experiences, skills, and friendships - all of which I am incredibly grateful for!

What's your favorite Mountaineers memory?

Though I have already enjoyed a lot of epic memories in my short stint with The Mountaineers, I am most fond of the experiences gained in random carpools. The gradual transition from blurry-eyed strangers at your 5am pick-up to acquainted adventure buddies by your post-summit celebration dinner is an element that I didn't originally anticipate but have enjoyed tremendously.

Who/What inspires you?

I love the process of setting seemingly unattainable goals and diligently making them a reality. To me, the natural world is the ultimate playground for this pursuit as it offers countless lifetimes of such challenges. Not to mention, if you're going to fall short of your goals it might as well be somewhere pretty.

What does adventure mean to you?

To me, adventure is any experience that enables you to discover a new aspect of yourself or of the world around you.
