Light up Your Home With a Priceless Mount Everest Print

As you saw last week, we have something exciting up our sleeves for our Virtual Gala on July 23 regarding outdoor celebrities and their advice for weathering a pandemic. You now know that the evening will include former keynote speakers Jimmy Chin and Lynn Hill, and fourteen soon-to-be-revealed remarkable guests! Visit our gala website to see the latest celebrities added to the list (and be sure to either pre-register for the online auction or sign up for the free virtual event to keep up with gala news)!

Speaking of outdoor celebrities, this first package will pique the interest of anyone who’s ever remotely dreamt of scaling the tallest mountain on the planet. (And don’t forget that all of our auction packages are now available for viewing!)

Mount Everest print: Photographed by Dianne Roberts and Signed by Tom HornBein and Jim Whittaker

IMG_0088.JPG

Mount Everest, at 29,029 feet, will forever hold an allure over the masses. The rich history of the mountain, however, perhaps remains most intriguing during an era when the world was still vying for first ascents: the ’50s, ’60s, and ’70s.

This is your chance to celebrate the monumental history of this storied mountain by taking home an original Dianne Roberts photograph of Mount Everest, signed by two men who helped establish its mountaineering legacy.

In 1963, Jim Whittaker, alongside Sherpa Nawang Gombu, made history as the first American to summit Mount Everest. Three weeks later, on the same expedition, Tom Hornbein, along with partner Willi Unsoeld, climbed to the summit via the treacherous West Ridge. You can read more about these feats within your two new signed books: Whittaker’s A Life on the Edge and Hornbein’s Everest: The West Ridge. Both men have contributed to the history of Everest in unique ways, and now is your chance to celebrate their achievements by taking home this amazing artwork.

This is a 24x36 inch print on archival paper. The package also includes a $75 gift certificate to TSUGA Fine Art and Framing to get this beautiful image professionally displayed. Bid high on this package because it also comes with the unique opportunity to have a thirty-minute video call with Dianne, Jim, and Tom to ask them any questions you might have about their tremendous mountaineering accomplishments!

Enjoy time with Mountaineers Books Author and Seattle Times’ Journalist Lynda Mapes - and get your name in her new book!

Nothing says “Pacific Northwest” more than orcas. Sit down for a one-on-one (or in a group of your design) 30-minute video call with Lynda, a regional expert on the region’s iconic southern resident orcas whales. She’s  the author of the forthcoming book Orca: Shared Home, Shared Waters about the natural history of southern resident orcas and their struggle to survive. She’s spent years traveling the Pacific Northwest by land and sea to talk with regional tribes, scientific experts, government leaders, and lovers of orcas to report on their ailing health in the Salish Sea. Lynda is seeking out the collective solutions that will save this incredibly special and important keystone species to our region.

Also included in this auction package is the opportunity to have your name in her new book! Along with other generous donors, your name will be recognized in her beautiful, full-color book. You will receive a signed copy when it’s published in spring 2021!

Can’t wait until the auction opens to learn more about orcas and how you can help? Mountaineers Books and its conservation imprint Braided River are currently fundraising to support Lynda’s important book to educate and inspire protection of our orca whales.
