With so many emerging threats to public lands, recreation, and the climate this year, how Congress and the administration’s actions are impacting Washington’s lands and waters is constantly changing. We’re dedicated to cutting through the noise and elevating the best ways you can make an impact.
From federal agency workforce reductions to public lands sell-offs and threats to protections for backcountry recreation, our conservation staff and members like you have brought our community’s voice to bear this year. Our shared advocacy has made a difference for public lands and the outdoor experience, but the threats keep coming.
Join us online on Wednesday, November 5 to hear the latest on our shared work to defend our federal public lands.
Fall 2025 Conservation Policy Update
November 5, 2025
12-1pm RSVP
The Mountaineers conservation team will share updates from the federal government shutdown as well as conservation and recreation policy updates, including where our priorities stand after our late October visit to Washington, D.C with Outdoor Alliance. With the federal government still shutdown, it’s impossible to forecast what will transpire in D.C. between now and then, but we’ll plan to cover our top federal advocacy priorities this year, which include:
- Federal land manager funding and workforce reductions.
- Public lands sell-off attempts.
- Roadless Rule Defense - protections for backcountry forest recreation.
- Great American Outdoors Act Reauthorization - critical funding for maintenance projects.
We’ll also highlight important actions you can take to defend public lands and protect investments in critical agencies like the Forest Service before the end of the year.
Our 60-minute virtual event will connect attendees with staff and other conservation-minded Mountaineers as we prepare for the next opportunity to speak up for the outdoors. We will dedicate time for a Q&A, but attendees should feel free to leave their cameras off as desired. The primary purpose of the event is for staff to share information with members of our community.
